Scenery is one of the main reasons people choose national parks as their travel destinations. This series plays up the visual wow-factor by offering full-color pictures on most of its pages and clear maps throughout. Big on details, the books give readers advice for trip planning, including park fees, passes, visitor centers, and the top 10 experiences. The guides tell travelers when to go, the best options for getting there, and where to go hiking, bicycling, backpacking, horseback riding, and waterfall sightseeing. This series also notes less-crowded alternatives to popular parts of the parks, and it details best practices for traveling with children, pets, or older family members. One of the series' strengths is its coverage of the practicalities of planning a national park trip, such as where to find accessible campgrounds, gas, Wi-Fi, ATMs, laundry facilities, and showers, along with advice about what to do for altitude sickness or if lightning strikes while one is outdoors. VERDICT A thorough, comprehensive series for those who favor national park vacations. Among the Moon park series offerings, if libraries can only buy one, this is it.
